Preparing for Pope Francis

As many of you know, the Philadelphia and South Jersey communities are busy preparing for a visit from Pope Francis in September. Joseph's House is no exception. This past month, Joseph's House staff, guests, and volunteers participated in a mural painting project to honor the Pope's visit. The mural, which will be installed at St. Malachy School in North Philadelphia, is a collaboration of the World Meeting of Families and the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. Below are a couple of pictures of the Joseph's House family at work.

Also, Joseph's House is honored to have been chosen as an awardee by The Francis Fund to receive $100,000 to expand our current building. The Francis Fund is a short-term charitable fund that is working to ensure that Pope Francis’ September visit to Philadelphia has a positive impact for the neediest of the Philadelphia and Camden area, and aims to raise $1.5 million for groups like Joseph's House. You can learn more about the Francis Fund here http://www.mercyandjustice.org/.

As we prepare for the arrival of Pope Francis in September, we look to his care of the homeless and his call to all of us to do the same: "To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely. And you are, dear brothers and sisters, the face of Jesus." (Pope Francis, Address during Visit at the Homeless Shelter "Dona Di Maria," 5/21/13)

Blessings,
John Klein
